We will call or email you to understand your needs, then email you an invoice to initiate your order. Once your order is complete, we will contact you for collection or you will receive the tracking details via email or AusPost app usually within 1-2 business days if we have the stock on hand. We highly recommend downloading the AusPost app.

Note: All clinics and pharmacies transferring physically generated prescriptions to Cranes Pharmacy must also post original scripts to us within 7 days.

Over the past few years there has been increased interest from Australians in the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes. Commonwealth, state and territory governments have used existing laws or passed specific laws to allow the prescribing and dispensing of medicinal cannabis products, as well as cannabis cultivation and manufacture for medicinal purposes.

DOES MEDICINAL CANNABIS WORK?

According to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), there have been few well-designed clinical trials using medicinal cannabis, so there is limited evidence on its success in treating different medical conditions, or on effective forms and drug interactions.

Some medical conditions have seen positive results from the use of medicinal cannabis such as anxiety, epilepsy in children, multiple sclerosis, nausea and vomiting and some types of pain, however it is clear that more research is required to fully understand the risks and benefits of medicinal cannabis.

HOW DO I ACCESS MEDICINAL CANNABIS IN NSW?

Medicinal cannabis products are highly regulated and the standard process of gaining access to the cannabis medication may not as simple as asking your doctor for a prescription.

As most cannabis products in Australia are unregistered, your doctor may need to follow a special process give you access to medicinal cannabis. Generally, the following steps are involved:

Have a consultation with your doctor or specialist.
If deemed suitable for treatment, your doctor will send an application to the TGA and possibly to the NSW Health Department to get an approval. Please note, your doctor will select a particular medicinal cannabis product at this time which may only be changed with a new approval.
The approval process usually take 1-5 days if you are a suitable patient and all of the correct information is provided to the TGA.
Once approved, the TGA will forward the approval letter to your practitioner. This letter will set out the approved indication, how long you have been approved for and what product and dosage you have received approval for.
Your practitioner will then be able to provide you with a prescription and copy of the approval letter which will be needed in order for your pharmacy to order the specific medicinal product that has been approved.
Once the pharmacy receives the product from the supplier, they will be able to fill your prescription. Please note, currently there are no PBS subsidised medicinal cannabis products.
You will be required to undergo regular reviews by your doctor to ensure you are not experiencing side effects and the treatment is safe and effective.

There are prescribers now however that fall under the Authorised Prescriber Scheme, who can issue certain categories of cannabis prescriptions directly to specified patients under their immediate care without requiring separate approval for individual patients, shortening the process.
